intro to journalism: fall 2009

Final Exam next week!!

The format of the final is similar to last time, with a few changes/additions:

Current Events: 15 pts
Terminology/Identifications: 15 pts
Short Answer: 30 pts
Essay: 60 pts (20 pts each, 3 essays total)

The scope is for the entire semester, not just the second half. This is true for every aspect of the test, including current events. Big stories that we’ve followed throughout–healthcare, afghanistan, the mayor and the olympics, all of these you can expect to see.

Chapters covered: 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15

Again, some of this was on your midterm, but do be sure you’re familiar with the big pieces of these chapters. In addition, many of our days had additional readings or supplementary material. This blog will be a help re-familiarizing yourself with this stuff.

Also, the test will cover topics and ideas raised by our many guests we’ve had:

Pedro Doria, Estadao.com
Ethan Michaeli, the Resident’s Journal
Brad Flora, WindyCitizen.com

Additionally, remember the two trips (one together, one apart) that were a part of this class:

First up will be Mohamed Nanabhay> the Head of Online for Al Jazeera English, the hugely powerful global news channel based out of Qatar. Please familiarize yourself with the work they’re doing online by reading a number of blogs at the Al Jazeera Blogs site.

Next, we will be joined by Pedro Doria, the editor-in-chief of Estadao.com.br, one of the largest newspapers in Brazil and based in Sao Paulo. Please familiarize yourself with the work of Estadao by accessing this translated version of the website.
